Lion and Mouse Friday Update

I'm working hard to keep the Lion and the Mouse piece a strictly during my lunch time experiment. But I just got through uploading it to my web page so that I can download and work on it at home if I want to. Tee Hee!! Even though I know that I have so many other PAYING things that I need to be working on at home instead. We'll see if I can stick to task and focus on what I need to this weekend!

Ok let's go through how this Monster is progressing! At this point I spend around half my lunch hour plucking away at this. Which is about a half hour. Here is a daily progression from the last image I posted which was from Tuesday. This image is from Wednesday. I'm starting to get close to finalizing what I "think" I want for the background. And finally feel like I am getting the hand of the brush I am using in photoshop to get the watercolor-ish look. But so far so good. The mouse has yet to make an appearance though. Poor mousey.

The Thursday image I am starting to lay in some tones on the lion. Trying to flesh him out and battling with whether or not I'll just break down and render him in my current style or do  my best to keep it as close to the original execution style as possible. I settle on a blend of the two. Try my best to keep as much of the watercolor looks as possible. But when it gets down to it I need to see current me in what I do! So a blend will be necessary.

The Friday image. I realize that I need to flesh out the Lion a bit more and get a more solid foundation on how he looks and how I want light to affect him and whatnot. I was getting to be too much of a slave to the original piece. Constantly looking back and forth at it. I've currently removed it from my piece and I'm just gonna draw and paint the rest of this the way I would currently do it!  So I redrew the Lion and I feel a lot better about this now! Still no mousey though. Maybe Monday!!!

Have a great weekend folks!!

Wow, Wilson..you are SO talented..this is just amazing to me that you can "see" all of this as you work on the piece. I'm so happy to hear that you're moving forward with what you do "currently" instead of worrying about staying true to the original. I think you're doing the right thing. I'm positive (truly!) that you will be amazed at the final piece. During this whole process (going back to an old piece and working it again) you are gaining wisdom (btw, I love your Wisdom Wednesday posts!!) as well as gaining strength in your technique and confidence with your work (not that you need it, you know) I strive to keep doing that for myself..for it's in doing that I realize helps my confidence. Plus there's a part where you just step back and look at it and let it go. That's the hard part for me..but I digress. I so enjoy visiting your blog - this recent post is so rich with content. I thank you very much for your words of encouragement at my blog! Keep up the great work!!

Sara, Vanessa and Shirley-Thanks so much for the encouragement!! I'm so glad you like this so far!!

Sara-I have long had a strange love affair with contour lines. I fight not outlining everything I do when I illustrate! LOL! Hopefully I'll learn when it's best to use it and the moments when it needs to take a backseat!

Vanessa- I can't wait to see what he'll look like either! HA! He may surprise us both! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Shirley-Hey Sweety! Thank you so much for your support! You are right, there definitely comes a point that you step back and just let it go and let the painting paint itself. Watching that birthing process is so magical! Even when it goes horribly wrong! LOL!
I'm glad you like Wisdom Wednesday! Hopefully, the knowledge will keep coming for me to post. Granted the wisdom is rarely mine, so it feels great to take it and share it with those that would have it. No need to thank me for encouraging you, your work is a great encouragement to me! (How do you do them so quickly!!! WOW!)

Thanks again to you all!
