Another finish of one of the Chef John Sketches.
This one is a lot more static and not as interesting as the others. While this shows the character, it's not really a portfolio piece per se. But it does what it's supposed to, I guess. I think it feels kinda cramped a bit to me. Like it needs room to breathe and all the elements are just squished together. Maybe I'm wrong. Let me know!

Lovely!I'd like to smell what he's smelling, must be fabulous looking at his expression:)
I think this illustration, following the others, gives good balance... calming down a bit and giving rhythm (if that makes sense) I really like it! Job well done!!!
I agree with Anthony that it brings a calm within the visual story, but I wouldn't mind seeing more purple in the shadows (wall, pot). Hehe, then that's also just me. Or maybe some yellows/oranges coming from the fire below the pot. Hum, I think where I'm trying to get to is I don't feel the warmth and scent of the pot yet. There are a lot of cool colors and not enough warms. Does any of that make sense? :P
Btw, I'm ADORING this story and the imagery! Especially the runaway produce. :)
Hi Wilson! I'm back and happy to check out your work..Chef John here is super! I think you've created a consistent character of John and that is one hard nut to crack. He's beautifully illustrated. As for the "close-in" shot..I like it. I think it will be perfect in your portfolio to show along with the other more atmospheric pieces. I'm thinking that if you want to break the tight feeling, perhaps let the steam float and break from the shape? Just a thought. I like breaking those rules myself. Anyway, I thank you for your super words at my blog. I am grateful for your visits and encouragement..it is with you and some other wonderful blog friends that I continue to stay on the path. Thank you! Happy Holidays to you.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words and wisdom! So many great suggestions and I will definitely consider them all! I do feel the illustration is missing something. So any of your suggestions could be exactly what it needs. I'll let it stew in my head for a bit and come back to it later.
I'll post the updates upon finishing them!! Thanks agian my friends!!
